On a gorgeous day for hockey, Canterbury Ladies 4s took to the pitch with only 12 players against a full Bromley & Beckenham 2s squad of 15. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Canterbury started brightly, earning a short corner in the very first minute. Though unable to convert, the early pressure set the tone for a determined performance.
Canterbury continued to attack with energy and intent, creating plenty of chances. However, against the run of play, Brom & Becks capitalised on a breakaway midway through the first half, winning a short corner that they sweetly converted.
After a rousing halftime team talk, Canterbury came out with renewed fire, playing some lovely flowing hockey. Neive was outstanding, putting in crucial tackles and distributing the ball brilliantly—rightfully earning the Player of the Match award. Every single player put in a tireless shift, even Sibs (even if sometimes in the wrong direction!), earning the lighthearted DOD title.
Although the final score didn’t reflect the team’s effort and quality, we must remember we are a 4th XI playing against a 2nd XI and not be down hearted. This match showcased the real promise and flair of the Canterbury squad. With the season drawing to a close, it’s clear that this team has plenty to build on for the future! 🔥🏑💚
