DoD: John Aikin (who lives 30 mins from Polo) for still being on the sofa at 12.30 pm for in his own words some #MeTime (snooze + TV) for a 1pm push back, he thinking it was 2pm plus missing a bar duty. I’m sure he doesn’t care (and neither did we) as he got 3 goals! Boom!

A relaxed atmosphere for this fixture though the absence of John Boy Aikin at the PB huddle puzzled us – where was he?
Anyway off we went and Sutton Valence were well into the game bringing one extraordinary save from Trigger which legs akimbo suggested a hamstring injury or worse but he had had a warm up game with the Squires beforehand so was all loose. After that the 3 forwards woke up (combined age of 203) and increasingly put SV under pressure with “runs” up the left from Jones (82), Thomas (52) and Hayward (69). John Boy then turned up 27 minutes late and 5 minutes later with no warm up after a Barry Thomas assist had given us the lead.
After the half time words of wisdom from Trigger and Manager Phil Dowling off we went again determined to increase the lead. But SV had other plans and our defence of Ricketts (with volume turned up) Philpott, Barton plus Trigger kept them out.
More forays from the midfield from Jamie Harris (excellent game), Will Cook – another excellent game and whose pace is a real asset, centre Guy Dowling and James Blackburn saw the game tilt a bit more to the home team with another assist from Thomas to Aikin for his second. Barry then decided he needed a rest and after a clattering of sticks was sent “for a green walk” to the bunker. All efforts were on a third goal for John Boy (to keep the kitty for another day) and him to supply the beer and with 10 minutes to go the jug was secured with Jamie Harris displaying skills not often seen from him to put Aikin in position for a shoo-in for his third. Well done Jamie!! and oh yes as an after thought 3 points too to ensure almost certain safety from relegation. Easy decision on MoM and DoD (see the story of that below!) but there is a plot afoot for John Boy to turn up late to all the games and thus score more goals!
