Having played some scintillating, swashbuckling hockey in the past few weeks, it feels a little a bit strange to see this Pilgrims side propping up the league. Getting 3 points feels like climbing mount Everest at the moment, however the grims didn’t have to do that, they just had to win away at Dartford science and technology college, no mean feat i can assure you.

Grims began the game playing some quick one – twos, pre scanning, making sharp leads and winning penalty corners. And scoring them actually. 2 nil inside 15 minutes – it was supposed to be soooo easssyyy.

Then the problems started, a hit into the circle took an unkind deflection, killing the pace of the ball which landed, rather fortuitously at a Burnt ash stick and he buried it passed a bleary eyed Brad. Then they scored again, i cant remember how, i think a penalty corner. Then they scored again! This time from a brilliant solo effort from their Australian talisman, who glided past the grims like Maradona at the Azteca stadium, Mexico 86, with the grims doing their best Peter Reid impressions by lumbering in his wake. 3-2 at half time.

Half time team talk could have been a bit more positive from some of the older players in all honesty, with the benefit of hindsight. Captain said he prefers the positive re enforcement method – but he couldn’t get a word in. They scored twice more in the second half. One was a little trickler over the line bundled in at the back post jobby and the other one was their center back doing his best Richard Mantell impression off the top towards the right post where a runner deflected it in. Bravo 5-2. Eye roll emoji.

Anyway that’s how it finished unfortunately. Lots of positives to take away including no one getting a card.

See you next week.
