On a mild, misty day perfect for a hockey, Canterbury’s 3s took to the field against Sevenoaks, fresh from their impressive third-place finish at the ladies’ quiz night.
The game kicked off with Canterbury showcasing solid defence that had all the finesse of a well-practiced ballet. The attacking quartet of Johanna, Lottie, Chloe, and Becs demonstrated their synergy, making promising runs and weaving through defenders like a hot knife through butter.
As fresh legs hit the pitch, substitutes Val, Mimi, Chloe, and Chirpy stepped up to keep the momentum rolling. An aerial ball from Mimi soared over the defenders but couldn’t quite make it to the backboard—it was an acrobatic attempt for sure! Sevenoaks made a valiant effort to break through, but the defensive line of Ellie, Lizzie, Maddie, and Johanna stood strong, thwarting their every move and keeping the score at a respectable 0-0 by the half.
The second half began with the tension only escalating. Two quick short corners for Sevenoaks culminated in their first goal. They doubled their lead shortly after with a breakaway that left our defence momentarily dazed . Not to be outdone, Canterbury rallied with Scarlett, Maddie, and Mim working their magic, only to be foiled again with another short corner awarded to the relentless Sevenoaks.
But here’s where the drama thickened: as Canterbury pushed forward, a pass from Maddie found Ellie, who, in a moment reminiscent of a slapstick comedy, took a spectacular tumble—but victory was snatched from the jaws of defeat as Canterbury regained possession. The final whistle blew, ending the match 3-0
