An intrepid eleven set off to Dartford to take on Burnt Ash 2s and their five-point league advantage. Having lost to Burnt Ash at home in the first half of the season, the 5s knew they had work to do, and started well, linking together and recycling possession well to apply some early pressure.
However, a defensive blunder from the clumsy canterbury captain awarded Burnt Ash their first penalty corner which they scored with a well taken drag flick.
Another Burnt Ash break-away was met by the solid Wacher Wall, who once again put it all on the line to repel the attack, but suffered a burst and fractured finger.
After the half-time break, as Wacher stoically took himself to A&E, a 10-man Canterbury started the second half with a renewed determination to not leave empty handed (and broken fingered).
Everyone stepped up to apply even more pressure, and Burnt Ash started to look more and more threatened with each Canterbury attack. As Canterbury pushed higher, it was almost all over when the next Burnt Ash break saw three a three-on-one in the Canterbury D, but another great save from Barnaby kept the away side in it.
With just minutes to go, Canterbury once again threatened the Burnt Ash D. As the umpires played on, a loose ball reached Hugo who didn’t waste any time in scoring the equaliser, salvaging a well-deserved point which felt like three!
Well done everyone, a great performance across the pitch. Get well soon Tom and welcome back Goody!
