1st Quarter: The match started with Reading asserting their dominance early. Canterbury struggled to break down their defensive structure, and Reading capitalized on two penalty corners. Both chances were clinically converted, with Canterbury unable to respond as Reading surged to a 2-0 lead. The home side’s clinical corner execution put them in control heading into the second quarter.
2nd Quarter: Canterbury came out with more intent in the second quarter, pushing forward with greater urgency. Their persistence paid off when forward Rasmussen brilliantly slotted home a backhand shot, bringing the score to 2-1. It was a vital moment for the visitors, as they began to find their rhythm, creating more chances in search of an equalizer. At the break, Reading held onto their slim one-goal advantage.
3rd Quarter: The third quarter saw Canterbury take control of the game, dominating possession and dictating the tempo. Degiovanni was the key architect of Canterbury’s equalizer, showing great vision to find Harmer inside the D. Harmer made no mistake, executing a precise backspace shot that beat the Reading goalkeeper and leveled the score at 2-2. Canterbury’s confidence grew, and they continued to push forward, but they were unable to take the lead despite several close calls.
4th Quarter: With the game finely balanced at 2-2, the final quarter was set to be a dramatic affair. However, Reading proved to be the more clinical side in the dying stages. With just three minutes remaining, Reading struck twice in quick succession, first with a well-worked field goal and then again from a counter-attack, leaving Canterbury with little time to respond. Despite some late pressure, the score remained unchanged, and Reading ran out 4-2 winners.
