In a clash that saw the grit of the Canterbury ladies put to the test, our squad came armed with confidence from last week’s nail-biter against Maidstone 1s. Yet, it seemed we were destined for an uphill battle against Marden.
The first half was a strategic ballet, with Canterbury orchestrating impressive passages of play, backed by our stalwart defense: Johanna, Ellie, Lizzie, and Maddie. The team dominated the first quarter, with Tilly, EJ, Sue, Chirpy, Becks, Lottie, and Scarlett dazzling the field—though the elusive goal remained just out of reach. Kate Boff was particularly on fire, sliding across the Astro like a pro. But just as the halftime whistle approached, Marden sneaked one past us, leaving the score at 1-0.
Emerging from the break, Marden came out swinging. Seven minutes in, they bagged a goal off a short corner, pushing the tally to 2-0. Not long after, another short corner turned into a penalty flick, which Marden cheekily converted, making it 3-0.
Canterbury rallied with determination, showing great teamwork and resilience, but despite Georgia’s stellar saves and Lizzie’s defensive heroics, Marden slipped in another goal. The final score of 4-0 didn’t reflect our commitment or the fun we had. Onwards and upwards, ladies! Let’s keep that spirit alive!
