Maidstone made their way to the fortress for the first our first game of the new year. Maidstone have been a bogey team of recent seasons with some hefty defeats to them.. (spoiler, not this game)
The first half was resilient from the Grims, we had a game plan and stuck to it, half court press and patience on the ball. Maidstone didn’t know what to do and it was only 1-0 at HT , compared to previous fixtures this was massive.
We were still in the game and still pushing , John Boydell popped up after some nice wing play and managed to place his stick through the defender and then on the second go chip the ball over the Gk to score and get us to 1-1.
Lots of back and forth and the boys digging deep but unfortunately Maidstone got another and at 2-1 with not long left it was tough to take, with 5 mins to go Hurst popped up with a goal at the back post after the ball was slipped across, after a very special moment and memory I won’t forget celebrating with JB it was all in vein as with 2 minutes to go they found the backboard after another baseline drive and managed to slip it home to score the winner.
Lots of positives and real togetherness in the game we use to take into Holcombe away next week.
