Canterbury after a weekend off wanted to kickstart the next phase of the season with a win. Performances have been strong but the results just not going their way so far in this campaign. Spurred on by a boisterous crowd, Wapping took a wapping from a well organised and hard working Canterbury side.
Strong starts have been a key part of the game but these haven’t always materialised into positives on the scoreboard but finally this all changed!
A well organised and energetic high press by Canterbury meant Wapping were put under pressure and turning over ball in dangerous areas, shots were being fired at the Wapping goal and corners were won. With the third PCA of the game, Canterbury reverted to “old school” options and Mel Clewlow hit a solid shot which crashed into the backboard for a deserved 1-0 half time lead.
Knowing there was more to come from the opposition, Canterbury had to remain focussed in the 2nd half, with some brilliant work by Lizzie Jenkins to win another PCA, Abbie Bean scored the second of the game to ease some nerves and tensions building in the crowd.
Wapping had very few chances, Canterbury were strong in defence and anything sent towards goal was dealt with by Aurora Mears.
A brilliant performance and 3 points sets the squad up nicely for an away trip to play Sevenoaks 2s on the 9th November – derby games are never easy but confidence is high within the green and white ranks. Onwards and upwards!!
