Dear diary,
This week’s match report will be shorter than our patience for umpiring decisions.
The vibes in the changing room and warm up were immaculate as always with a bit of a pre-match pump from the legend himself, Pitbull.
Now, the first half was a delightful blend of us trying to maintain possession while Ashford came at us with all the subtlety of a bull in a china shop. They threw everything at us— counterattacks, short corners, fouls. But, were they able to find the net? Becs said no. Despite all that pressure, the 2s held strong until the end of the half, leaving the scoreline at a thrilling 0-0.
After an inspirational half-time talk from Becs and Haighy (where buzzwords like “pace,” “intensity,” and “please, for the love of hockey, get it together” were thrown around), the 2s emerged with one goal in mind: smashing the backboard.
And yes, we came out swinging, in what can only be described as a spicy 🥵 second half. We racked up three cards—although, to be fair, one of them should’ve been cancelled out by the heartfelt, almost Oscar-worthy apology made to the umpire immediately following the foul.
Short corners? Oh, we had plenty of those, for both teams. In fact, we lost count somewhere after the fifth— we were just practicing our short corner defence and attack skills at that point 🤷🏻♀️. It’s safe to say the real winner here was the umpire’s whistle, which got more of a workout than anyone on the field. But the practice paid off, as both Vicky and George managed to find the back of the net, making the final score 2-0 to us.
