Today was my first taking the lead of the Men’s 10’s so I got the job of the match report. Next week it will be going to the DOD or the one who arrives latest!
We all arrived at Gore Court with not too many people arriving at the wrong entrance! Even the sun was shining which is a first for Sittingbourne. Once the late stragglers arrived we went onto the new pitch and did a bit of a warm up drill. Had a bit of fun trying to allocate shirts with not many of the juniors really fitting too well into the 2XL shirts!
The game started well with winning the toss and right from the off the team put pressure on Gore Court and it wasn’t long before Samuel broke through with a great strike from the top of the D into the top of the net. With 4 minutes gone the kids were buzzing and Gore Court were already wondering how to keep up with the youngsters.
Pressure continued and it wasn’t long before we was back in the D and this time Wilf taking on a few players with nimble stick skills to slot it past the GK. The team played really well with some great work in midfield and with the pitch spreading out there was lots of simple passing around the Gore Court team. Our defence allowed Gore Court into the D a couple of times to allow Olly in goal something to do but mostly it remained one sided. It wasn’t long before Wilf got his 2nd of the half with a nice flick through some desperate defending into the back of the net to make it 3-0 at half time.
2nd half and with no subs the team tired a bit but so did the opposition. There was a few clumsy tackles on our boys but they soon changed tactics and just moved the ball earlier to keep control of the game and possession. The ball remained in Gore Courts defence for most of the half and they allowed Wilf to secure his hat trick with a nice reverse shot on a short corner to make it 4-0.
All the team played really well. The youngsters all starting to gel nicely. The work rate from Henry made the man of the match award very
