The match started with both teams pretty evened out, but it didn’t take long for Folkestone to take control. After just 10 minutes, Folkestone earned a short corner, and they capitalized on the opportunity, slipping a well-executed shot past our defense to make it 1-0. This early lead gave them a confidence boost, but we remained composed and focused on our game plan.
Throughout the first half, Lloydy, Will, Jack, and Harry worked the ball around the back, moving it calmly and looking for that quick pass into the midfield. Stewart, Simon, and Chris were key in linking the defense to the attack, and their ability to drive the ball up the field created several opportunities to penetrate Folkestone’s D. However, despite our frequent advances and numerous chances, we couldn’t quite get the final touch right, letting several potential shots slip by without scoring.
At halftime, Folkestone held onto their 1-0 lead, but we knew that we were still very much in the game. The first half had shown we could break through their defense, and the team came out for the second half determined to turn things around. Our focus shifted to improving the basics, like playing the easy ball and taking our time to make smarter decisions.
For the first 15 minutes of the second half, we looked sharper and more composed, moving the ball well and maintaining pressure on Folkestone. However, just as we were starting to build some momentum, Folkestone struck again. A fast-paced counterattack saw them break through our defense, leaving Brad in a tough one-on-one situation with their striker. Unfortunately, this led to a penalty flick, which Folkestone converted, making it 2-0.
Despite the setback, we didn’t lose heart. Ten minutes later, a quick pass from our defense found Nick on the left wing. He made a brilliant pass wich lead to a run down the baseline leaving Christian to put it into the backboard as it bundled in , taking the ball into the D and setting up a crucial goal that brought that brought the score to 2-1. This goal lifted our spirits, and from there, we poured everything into trying to find an equalizer. We worked hard to find gaps in Folkestone’s defense, passing quickly and trying to create more chances in front of goal.
However, as the clock ticked down, frustration began to set in. Folkestone’s defense held firm, and our attempts to break through were met with resistance. The game became gritty, with both teams fighting hard, and tempers began to flare as frustrations were taken out on the pitch and even the umpires. In the end, Folkestone managed to run the clock down, and the match ended 2-1 in their favor.
Although the result didn’t go our way, it was a hard-fought game with plenty of positives to take away. We showed resilience and determination, especially after going 2-0 down, and our second-half performance demonstrated our ability to fight back. With a bit more composure and luck in front of goal, the outcome could have been very different.
