Dear Diary,
Coming to you live from the sideline of pitch 1. We spiced up our team talk location today and evacuated the cabin. Coach Nathan told us to find some friends and take a stroll across the pitch where we discussed tactics. Once we all had a goal in mind (some of us, the actual goal), we were ready to go. The first half saw a lot of action, both teams were playing cautiously, and there weren’t many scoring opportunities. Coaches Nathan, Ziggy and Jina were optimistic and thought hey, things can always pick up in the second half 🤷🏻‍♀️.

During half time, we received a clinical team talk and were told that the man and his dog were devastated. That in turn, shattered Canterbury ladies 2’s hearts. Our hearts could not go on like this. So, we went on, determined to impress the man and his dog.

Our achey breaky hearts started to repair themselves with some sexy plays from Jaime and Jorja to Gemma and Rachel who drove it into the 25. Blackheath made multiple attempts to stop the play but a lovely post up from Chirpy and her dedication to completing her goal (being selfish in the D) meant that we finally found the backboard.

Blackheath came back with vengeance. They started becoming goal hungry and made some lovely plays towards Canterbury’s D. But nothing could get through our defence of Dunny, Lorna, Martha, Jorja and Georgia – they could be likened to the Great Wall of China with how solid they were. On the sideline, Tara showed off her depth of vocabulary and gave some very fruity choice words of opinion (she should have been mic’d up…). Blackheath continued to penetrate our D and were lucky to gain some short corner opportunities from the umpires. Gutting for them, they could not finish (we’ve all been there).

Canterbury continued to be persistent, however Alex was unfortunate to be flattened near the concrete (Ziggy was very concerned) but she jumped up as if nothing had happened. We worked the ball up the pitch effortlessly. A mix up in the middle and some quick thinking from Irmak saw her pass the ball to EJ near the top of the D. A lovely forehand drive round the D and some cheeky skills over sticks saw EJ end up on her reverse and send an absolute rocket of a shot into the top left bins. Everyone’s panties were on the floor (including the dogs). Canterburys heart were no longer shattered and we were on a high. With that, the final whistle blew. The man and his dog were ecstatic with our second half performance and our hearts were mended.

See you next week
XOXO
