Canterbury Ladies 5’s
With the last minute change of goalkeeper from Sophie to Rhiannon who are usually outfield players, the fabulous fives set out with an experienced side to play Dartford 1’s on the soggy sand pitch! Not knowing if we would need our swimming costumes or sticks we set out on a slow warm up waiting to see if the opposition would arrive or were put off by the rain!
With Canterbury getting first pushback we started off strong and on the attacking foot, narrowly missing out on an opportunity! Dartford came back at us hard and we were rather unfortunate that Chloe’s stick got in the way, unluckily we went 1-0 down.
With the rain starting to fall harder the lake on the sand pitch started to grow bigger and bigger, with plenty more attacks Canterbury were putting the Dartford team in their own half completely making up for the ‘sloppy 15 minutes at the start’, and with that the half time whistle blew.
During the break the rain was getting heavier and heavier but Canterbury weren’t phased and came out strong with wonderful link-ups by Ava, Poppy, Kate and Lou sending beautiful balls up and down the line slotting them nicely into spaces! Dartford came at us and it went down to Rhiannon in goal to stop the ball, did she save it? Yes she did, many times with some talented saves for someone not used to being in kit- perhaps goalkeeper is going to be her new position?!
Down the other end of the pitch Canterbury pushed and had many attacking chances that we just couldn’t put away much to our dismay!
With that the end score way 1-0 Dartford but promising play from Canterbury- onwards and upwards to next weeks game! Well played all!
MOM: Rhiannon!
but a special mention to Ava who had a brilliant game on her debut for the ladies section!
