Over 55 ladies v South LX
On a very cold morning, Canterbury ladies over 55 stepped out to take on South LX (a side comprising of a variety of clubs across the south).
With Sibs and Gwenno resorting to managing the side due to injury, the side were a small (but elite) squad determined as ever to give it their all.
And give it their all they did, going 1.0 up after 20 minutes with a superbly worked goal which involved build up play of about 5 players but was deftly slotted home by Gill. The rest of the forward line of Jaynie, Suzie, Annie and Julie G ran their defence ragged.
Our midfield of Meg, Lou, and Kate were dynamic and never stopped running, although Meg took a few recovery rests by lying down on the Astro?!
Although the opposition passed the ball well and continued to pressurise our defence , we were more than a match for them. Sharon and Eirian were solid and calm in the centre , while Lynn and Steph crushed any attacks from the wings. Julie G kept her glasses on and had some dangerous moves on the right flank, earning her a spell on the forward line. On the occasion they did breakthrough for a shot at goal, Julie SB brushed it away with the ease of waving away an annoying gnat.
The final whistle blew and 3 cheers from Jaynie to the XL ! Easy mistake…who spotted that LX is 60 in Roman numerals…(now I get their team name!) Thanks to our umpires too.
