On a bitter, rainy Saturday afternoon the Canterbury 3’s faced the aggressive and persistent Folkestone 2’s. Despite the weather, Canterbury soaked up early pressure from the opponents to take command of the game.
Canterbury’s persistence paid off; resulting in an early goal in the first half. Assisted by Bex’s fantastic strike from the top of the D, Pippa managed to get on the rebound to slap the ball past the opponent’s keeper into the corner of the goal to give Canterbury the advantage.
Canterbury also had notably strong defending, keeping Folkestone’s threatening attacks from reaching the D and managing to distribute the ball back into the midfield to allow advances. The first half ended 1-0 to Canterbury.
Canterbury remained on the front foot throughout the second half, battling hard and achieving a few short corners. It was a very physical game with a few green cards pulled out.
The game was secured with a fantastic run by Georgina following with a smooth hit past the goalkeeper and into the corner of the goal. Georgina, with her excellent runs and fantastic goal was decidedly our man of the match. The game finished 2-0 to Canterbury 3’s.
