Dear diary,
What. A. Day. To start off, everyone (minus the Gibraltar car thanks to Ellie’s time keeping) rocked up late due to road closures. After discussing what would impress the man and dog, we were ready to go. There isn’t much to say about the first 10 minutes other than Marden scoring which put them in the lead. The man and dog were definitely not impressed by this. Nonetheless, Canterbury continued to press and managed to win a short corner from some lovely play from Ellie, Chirpy and Vicky. This worked in our favour as Ellie managed to score a beautiful straight strike making it 1-1 (mr man and dog were shooketh). After a tense half time chat, Canterbury were raring to go wanting to dominate the match. Some lovely baseline leads from Alex meant that Martha was able to send multiple balls shooting down the sideline.
Alex was then able to pass it to an eager Tara who was waiting in the D, who managed to upgrade it to a short corner. With a German in mind, Jorja stepped in to inject with captain Chirpy and Rachel waiting at the top. However, that did not go to plan but fear not, we made it happen. Ellie slayed (yes – slayed) that ball towards Jorja who then deflected it in from the left putting us in the lead with 2-1. Man and dog were shooketh yet again so they decided to stay and watch for a little longer.
Marden upped their pressure (and their elbows) after this and there was a lot of back and forth play between Canterbury and Marden in Canterbury’s D. This saw midfielders Gemma and Irmak drop down to defend with Dunny, Jina, Jorja and Martha, however, Marden were goal hungry and managed to sneak the ball past the line after multiple denied attempts from Georgia. This took us to 2-2 with 5 minutes left. The main spectacle of the game were the last five minutes. They. Were. SPICY. Georgia (GK) took a position which she wasn’t particularly used to – a sub, after a tactical decision from Nathan. Tara dramatically (no surprise) ran to the corner and managed to make a new friend. This said friend just wanted someone to hold her hand. Tara declined. With seconds to go, Canterbury secured a vital short corner thanks to Vicky. Tara got so excited that she somehow flung Vicky’s mouthguard towards her new friend. A quick chat at the top of the D resulted in what could’ve been the most crucial decision of the game. Chirpy injected it. Ellie hit it at an angle. Chirpy slid. Knees on the ground. Made contact with the ball (her stick, not her knees). Nathan looks away. The man and his dog couldn’t take their eyes off the game. BANG. Backboard. Nathan, the man and his dog’s panties dropped. Canterbury screamed for joy. Marden also screamed (probably not for joy). And in the distance, we heard the sweet, sweet sound of the final whistle. We screamed again.
See you next week!
