On the crisp afternoon of the 13th of January CHC 2nd XI were hoping for a repeat of the victory over Marden at the start of the season, but would they come away with the win they craved or would Marden Russets rustle up something new and leave polo farm with a win?
The game started with equal possession and early chances on goal at both ends but none being converted.Slowly, Marden gained control of the midfield and started working the Canterbury D.
With an interesting high ball into the circle, a Marden attacker, deflected it in front of the keeper and bringing the score to 1-0.
A few minutes later, a missed aerial trap lead to a bobbling ball through to their attacker outpacing the defence the goalkeeper’s attempt at saving it was futile as the attacker masterfully scores making it 2-0 Marden.
With many more chances on goal, Marden we’re looking on top for the half time break with the score 2-0.
Due to an expertly delivered half time talk from Alastair Brogden the CHC 2nd XI started the second half with a new desire to pull the game back.
Canterbury looked focused and quickly won a flurry of short corners with Ali Fig, our man of the match, using his expertise in drag flicking to win a penalty flick from this which he neatly put away.
With Marden quaking at the knees Ali placed the ball in their net once again with a brilliant flick.
With Marden’s last minute effort hitting the post the game ended in a 2-2 draw. A draw that will hopefully play dividends in the future for Canterbury 2nd XI.

Awarded DOD for 1) leaving a ball (which someone told me to do) and an attacker almost scoring 2) not finishing my pint quick enough.
