A tough game for the 5s against a speedy T Wells team. A not ideal start to the game after we had to move the game to AW2 as AW1 was still frozen in parts, which meant not much of a warm up. However, we started the game well making sure we remained solid and secure and kept it simple with efficient passing. The game ebbed and flowed with decent chances both ends and both GKs keeping it goalless. The press from the forwards worked really well and created turnover ball and chances, which eventually led to us taking the lead before half time as Sam Ericson scored from his 1st touch a minute after coming on from a great pass from Lee Gardiner.
The second half was very equal and tense, but the hard work ensured that we didn’t concede and, from one of our PCs, Sam Schurring finished nicely to make it 2-0 and give us a bit of a cushion. T Wells pressured us at the end and looked to have pulled one back just before the end, but Harrison in goal pulled off a blinder throwing himself at full stretch to deny them an absolute sitter of a goal. A really satisfying performance after the undeserved result last week.
Everyone played well, with the youngsters particularly showing grit, class and composure throughout the game. Difficult to decide a MoM but the new axis of Will Upton and Will Gardiner as twin centre midfielders were excellent and are showing they can compete against, and better, older and more experienced players in a tough and physical league. Great result!
