On a blinding sunny Sunday afternoon, Canterbury’s middle aged veterans took to the pitch in Herne Bay to start their O45’s cup run!
It was a welcome back onto the pitch for Annie and Eirian after a couple of seasons off getting some worn out parts replaced. We also saw the return of Julie S-B back between the posts after a 20 year absence of donning the pads (stepping in for the unfortunate Trudy who is out with a knee injury) And we welcomed Jo Irwin for her Canterburry debut match.

Right from the first whistle Canterbury took control of the match with some beautiful passing hockey making it look simple and elegant (with the exception of Nikki falling over like a floundering elephant). It wasn’t long before the goals started to happen with Claire, Gill, Susie and Mel L taking turns to pop the ball away. 4-0 half time.

Second half continued in the same fashion with good attacking play from Jo and Lou in midfield, and a few short corners awarded! With a couple of near misses, a change was needed so up stepped Mel C as stickstopper and Sibs as striker for the third one…. (I know right…)
Boom 💥, the old fashioned banana shot bottom right smashing into the backboard !Sibs had scored! And I’m sure she will be delighted to talk anyone through it who wasn’t present to see it first hand.

A further goal calmly slotted in by Mel Lea for her second sent Canterbury comfortably through to round 2.

A great game by all, bring on the next round.
