MATCH REPORT 21/10/2023
Canterbury 4s set out to Beckenham feeling excited and ready to play a great game despite the torrential rain. Nikki and Sibs started us off with an inspiring and motivational team talk. Mid-talk after some strange noises were heard coming from the luxurious port-a-loo behind us, maddie appeared to complete our squad of 11. We set out with confidence and high spirits, with everyone prepared to play the full 70 minutes as a result of our lack of subs. Early on Brom & Becs managed to overcrowd the d and slip in a goal. Canterbury did not let this dampen our spirits- as we were already damp enough! We kept together and played as a team and managed to keep the score line 1-0 going into half time.
After another team talk, some wine gums, and a drink, we were ready to go attack the second half. The standard of individual and team play was incredible from everyone. With a dramatic fall and inspirational call from Nikki that ‘it’s happening’, and Sibs’ enjoying a few very ‘calm’ chats with the umpires, and this wasn’t about the weather, the score did not change. We kept together and played smart with everyone putting in 100% effort. We fought hard and had some goal worthy opportunities but unfortunately could not convert them. We somehow managed to keep everyone (sibs) on the pitch escaping any cards and the score at the final whistle was 1-0. Everyone played incredibly well and should go home feeling proud of themselves and each other. It was our last game with our lovely Libby and we all wish her the best of luck in this new and exciting chapter of her life over in Australia. We’re coming to find you next year on tour!!
