An early Saturday start saw the Pilgrims head to the coast, against the newly promoted Cliftonville 1st XI. In the absence of James Golding, Andy Ericson stepped up to the side in what was going to be a hard game with both sides looking to bounce back from defeats the previous week.

Canterbury started strongly, although there were elements of scrappiness from both sides indicated by a card 5 minutes into the game. After some positive play, Hursty made the most of some space in the first half to bring the 2-0 up at half time.

Knowing the second half was going to be a case of game management, it was unfortunate that some Cliftonville pressure converted into a very well taken short corner. Not to worry though, we had a gadget short corner to take us back to 3-1, and shortly after the skipper put one in to make it 4.

Once again understanding the need for game management, the team collectively decided the last 5 minutes would be better spent offering Cliftonville a route back in, but were able to close out a gritty result.
