As always at Holcombe a hard fought game in unseasonably hot weather! An early goal by the opposition suggested their youth based team might rule the day but an excellent through ball from Teddy to Eddie then allowed the skipper to round the keeper and reverse into the goal. A little more ebb and flow kept the scores level until the most wildly scuffed shot ballooned up and beat Gary in the goal! 2 – 1 at half-time reflected the well balanced game – but – Tony needed to rest a niggle after half-time and this allowed Holcombe a purple patch where three quick goals (which on many other days would have missed or been scuffed by the over-enthusiastic youngsters) as we re-organised and tried to find the right balance. For the remainder of the game, as always, the defence led by James, Graeme and Jo stood strong with excellent support from Heath working well with Jimmy providing hope in the build-up play. With the skipper on the pitch for the first time this season and playing up front only very few opportunities made their way through but when it did another goal was slotted away. New tea ladies in the kitchen served up a different sort of Holcombe tea washed down by ‘non-member priced’ beer!!
