The 1s welcome University Of Exeter to Polo Farm in what was a highly anticipated start to their league campaign. The first half saw both teams have opportunities to put the ball in the goal but some good saves and defending left both teams with nothing coming into half time.

The 2nd half started and Exeter came flying out the blocks, however, some good defending from our defenders once again kept the waves of attacks at bay. A sliding ball from our Maltese International which found youngster Josh Kitson in the D who rode a few ‘bad’ tackles to win a stroke. After some efforts in pre-season it was deemed that Craig Boyne was the best candidate to take it – using all his ‘many seasons of playing’ to put the ball in the bottom corner. 1-0 Canterbury. Canterbury weathered the Exeter storm again and again and a strong carry from Mr Marathon himself James Meakin and a first time pass into the D from Jack Valentine found our SENIOR player in Craig Boyne in the D who slotted it away like he did ‘back in the good ol’ days’. 2-0 Canterbury. We gave away a penalty corner, Exeter scored. We walked away the winners. Canterbury 2 Exeter Uni 1.

Thanks to all the spectators who came to watch and stayed for a bit of Beer Pong afterwards. We look forward to taking this result into next week when we play Sevenoaks (A) on Sunday.
