Ladies 2nd XI vs BromBecks 1’s (Away) | 11 Mar 23

Lost 3-2

Scorers: Tilly Corteen-Coleman, Emma Dunn

MoM: Sophie Godwin and Kayla Pollard

DoD: Rachel Van De Merwe

Canterbury 2s travelled to Brom Becks and with only a few games remaining this season were looking for a much needed win.
Canterbury didn’t let the sparse facilities (portaloo anyone?) get in the way of the warm up and started well with good attacking possession play between Tilly, Rachel, Iona, debutant Sophie, her debutant sister Eleni and Chirpy. We won a short corner which was put away by a textbook drag flick by Tilly.
The whole Canterbury team put in a huge effort for the rest of the first half tracking Brom Becks when they were in possession and bursting forwards when we were in attack.
Shortly after the half time break Brom Becks got a short which they scored from. Within a couple of minutes we won another short which Dunny on left slip put away thanks to a useful deflection from the Brom Becks keeper.
The end of this goal-rich action packed 5 minutes was an unfortunate break from Brom Becks resulting in a open play goal from close range. The next phase of the game was dominated by a green card for each team.
First up was ‘Jazzy’ who got sent off for deliberate foul play (and equally foul language). Rachel then decided she needed some time off so put in a bit of a strong stick tackle on the Brom Becks CH.
The game was still tied as both teams got back to 11 players. It was Brom Becks that got the breakthrough – from a deflected short corner routine. Canterbury battled to the end but were disappointed not to get any points from the game.
