MoM: Eleni Godwin

Canterbury Ladies 3s travelled up to Langley Park to play against Bromley & Beckenham 2’s. In the first half we won the ball off Bromley to give Canterbury an initial attack from the midfields and forwards, aggressively pushing forward however it was shut down quickly after a shot on goal was saved by the keeper. This allowed Bromley to counter as Canterbury were out of formation after the recent attack. The majority of the first half were built up by attacks from Canterbury but then being shut down by Bromley’s defence and followed by a quick counter attack down the right wing. The possession was even between the teams both fighting for the ball in the middle. A Brom Beccs player received a yellow card for numerous bad tackles but sadly Canterbury were unable to capitalise on the advantage, so the first half ended 0-0 with both teams hungry for a goal.

After an uplifting team talk from the few mature players (meaning over 25) on our team Canterbury were ready to get back out there. The second half started with Canterbury losing the ball and having to rush back to defend after a strong attack from Bromley. The second half was much like the first half with the ball going up and down the pitch, both sides attacking and then dropping to defend the counter from the other team. With good work from Canterbury’s midfield holding there own with possession , as well as Jaime and Eleni distributing the ball out wide from the middle. The defence holding a tight formation with Lizzie and Alex controlling the back passing it around with Jess and Martha not letting any balls through the 25. When there were counter attacks from Canterbury, the forwards would all run up together (Alex Hewett, Hannah, Gabs, Eleni and Pippa) supporting the midfields running up getting ready to get into the D and score.

The final score was 0-0 both teams exhausted from running up and down the pitch, MOM was Eleni for doing an excellent job playing out of her normal positions and distributing the ball around.
