Won 5-1

Scorers: Ed Butcher, Sam Ericson, Andrew Dunn, Nick Buckingham, Josh Kitson

MoM: Michael Sabine

DoD: Ollie Lumley

The Men’s 2s took on Eastbourne 1s at Polo Farm in a highly-anticipated match. The game was off to a fast start, with Canterbury displaying skilful play and creating some good early chances.

The 2s struck first, with Ed Butcher scoring a drag flick from a penalty corner, “Ave it!” as Peter Kay would say.

The 2s continued to dominate the game, with Sam Ericson scoring a ‘beautiful’ field goal to put the team up 2-0, they all count!

Half term was the familiar good cop, bad cop routine from the Dunn/Lumley axis. Dunn expected higher standards (he used to play 1s don’t you know) Lumley was happy with the scoreline and wanted the young team to continue on an upward trajectory.

Andrew Dunn then added to the lead with a clever deflection off a penalty corner, putting the team 3-0 up, “I’m not a one-trick pony, I’m not a ten-trick pony, I’m a many-trick pony”

Eastbourne fought back, but the defence held strong, led by Nick Buckingham who found himself on the scoresheet yet again after he started the attack from defence, “I’m gunna do what I want, when I want and there’s nowt you can do about it!” 4-0

In the end, the Men’s 2s sealed the victory with a final field goal from Josh Kitson, bringing the final score to 5-1, after Eastbourne annoyingly grabbed a consolation.

It was a dominant performance from start to finish, and the Men’s 2s deservedly took the win in this exciting match.

‘Player’/Coach Lumley given DOD for the 2nd week in a row, his goal bound shot hit a defender, no PC awarded instead a free hit and DOD!

MOM to Michael Sabine, ran the Eastbourne defence ragged.

Aldershot at home next up.
