Canterbury Over 50s vs Holcombe Over 50s (EHA Cup)
This game was initially scheduled for early December and, after 2 cancelled dates due to frozen pitches, was eventually played on a slightly warmer but windy January day with everyone running off their Xmas excesses.
Canterbury started very strongly dominating possessionn and taking the lead with early goals from Kev Miller and David Judge. It looked like a comfortable game, but Holcs then broke away through a direct through ball to their quick centre forward who somehow skinned Les the self appointed “rock of defence” and finished past Trigger. After this Jon Gurney decided to stick to this quick man and leave “the Rock” to his own devices! Canterbury consolidated and then scored again through a fantastic reverse stick strike from Dave Sharp.
The strength of the Canterbury midfield, of Judgey, Ollie Hollingworth and Andy Erikson continued to pose problems for Holcs throughout the rest of the game, ably supported by a solid, rotating, defence of Jon Gurney, Les ” Captain sieve”, Nick S-K, Tony Panayides, Ali Coleman and Rich Aylwin.
Canterbury proceeded to win the game comfortably in the second half with additional goals from Ollie (2), Andy E, Judgey, Kev and Barry. A good performance from all with notable comments being: Forber didnt score despite playing up front;
Trigger looked very cold by the end.
Judgey looked like he was practicing jug avoidance.
Canterbury advance to play Reading next weekend, which will be a big challenge, but one we look forward to. Thanks to the Dinner ladies for the support and the food.
Thanks also to the umpires, Chris Martin (Canterbury) and John Beckett (Holcombe). Last but not least to all our supporters who came to watch. Far too many to list 🤣
