Canterbury arrived to gloomy Hawkenbury for top of the table clash with Tunbridge Wells. After a thorough warm up in the neighbouring play park (fortunately no one got stuck in the tyre swing) the team was ready for action. The first half Canterbury dominated the game with some beautiful passing around the pitch, numerous short corners and a few shots, but just could not capitalise on any of these chances. Kendra in goal was called into action just before the half time break when T’Wells made a fast break down the left & into the D, but neatly disposed of by Kendra.
At half time the team got a brilliant pep talk (but no sweets) and went back onto the pitch with high spirits and were determined to score. The opportunity arose to us when we won a short corner, and then had plenty of time to plan it while the umpire took himself off to the toilet for a little sit down. On his return 10 minutes later and a little lighter, Canterbury were set. A little 1-2 at the top gave Sibs a perfect opportunity to play the ball directly at the keepers feet! Not quite the right idea, but soon redeemed herself with the rebound, firing the ball into the net with a mid air volley. Boom! The play that continued after was intense and with some discussion between both teams and umpires, Tunbridge wells was awarded a short corner as the final match whistle went. With support from the sidelines and each other, Canterbury’s defenders successfully cleared the shot, leaving the end result to be a 1:0 win for canterbury! Now joint top of the league with a game in hand… Nice 😊
