The Early Bird Special
With a civilised (read: painfully early) 10:30am start, the mighty Canterbury 4s assembled, blinking into the daylight and clutching coffees like lifelines. Miraculously, we didn’t just wake up — we launched.
In what can only be described as a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it start, Canterbury stormed into a 2–0 lead within the first two minutes. Edenbridge were still lacing up their trainers while we were already celebrating. Clinical. Efficient. Slightly suspicious for that time of day. And then… we dozed off.
Whether it was the early hour catching up with us or dreams of post-match festivities creeping in, Edenbridge capitalised and brought it back to 2–2. Our defence, momentarily caught on the hop, found themselves in an unexpected cardio session as Edenbridge seized their opportunity.
Half-time sweeties (and perhaps a few stern words) clearly did the trick because the second half was all Canterbury. Wave after wave of attack crashed into the Edenbridge circle. The pressure was relentless. The energy was there. The vibes were immaculate. The ball, however, absolutely refused to cross the goal line. It hovered. It teased. It dramatically rolled along it. But cross it? No.
Despite dominating the second half, the score remained stubbornly level. One of those games that felt like it should have been comfortably ours — perhaps our minds were already drifting back to the club and the legendary Pink and Blue Day.
Huge well done to everyone for a strong team performance. Special mentions to Mariama and Heather for outstanding games and tireless work across the pitch.
Player of the Match deservedly goes to Georgia, who bagged both goals and was an absolute force to be reckoned with up front — sharp, fearless, and clearly fully awake from the first whistle.
DOD goes to Sibs, who delivered a masterclass in Ridiculous Decision Making. Commitment to the chaos was unwavering and, frankly, award-worthy. Next time, we’ll remember to stay awake for the full 70!
