Canterbury ladies 3s faced off against Tunbridge Wells in a match that had everyone on the edge of their seats. Despite Mim and Ellie arriving fashionably late (15 minutes behind schedule due to some meet-time mix-up)—the atmosphere was electric with anticipation.
The first half kicked off with Canterbury demonstrating impressive energy, pressing high and creating numerous short corners. However, luck seemed to elude them, as they failed to convert any of these opportunities into goals. Persistence paid off when Mimi finally netted one to put Canterbury ahead at 1-0.
Sue and EJ combined beautifully, linking up to push the ball forward and maintain momentum. Meanwhile, across the pitch, Georgia was doing some sensational saves.
Mimi continued her dominant performance, displaying masterful control and making excellent crosses that had the crowd gasping in appreciation. The umpires mistakenly blew the whistle early, but after a collective shrug, they made a dramatic return to the pitch to take another short corner.
As the second half commenced, Canterbury wasted no time in extending their lead to 2-1. With another short corner awarded, Johanna seized the moment, driving the ball upfield with purpose. Lizzie shone brightly at the back, commanding the defense like a general leading her troops into battle.
Chirpy displayed her exceptional skill with clever plays, while Mimi—because clearly it wasn’t enough for her to shine only in the first half—continued darting everywhere, setting up EJ for what looked like guaranteed goals.
Georgia, our very own brick wall, had an unbelievable save with just ten minutes left. A short corner was awarded to Tunbridge Wells, and despite another extraordinary save, they nabbed yet another shot. But to everyone’s utter astonishment, the umpires called for a penalty flick—an eyebrow-raising decision that left Canterbury feeling robbed as Tunbridge Wells equalised at 2-2.
