Ladies 4’s vs Sittingbourne

After some insider information from Sophie about the opposition and an enjoyable warm up with great choice of music by Georgina, Canterbury were ready to take on Sittingbourne for the second time this season.
Canterbury started off strong making the crucial tackles and drives down the line to put the pressure on the Sittingbourne defence. Our chance soon came with Moi getting the ball, tripping over her own feet, diving full stretch, one handedly swinging at the ball in only a way that Moi could do, and launching the ball into the top left corner of the goal! With the rest of the team in complete shock and squealing at the goal, Moi pipes up “did it go in?” whilst lying down face planted flat on the floor! 1-0 within 5 minutes.
With continuous hard work from all the team, we were unlucky to concede a goal and then soon after another one sneaked in giving Sittingbourne the lead!
But swiftly moving on, Canterbury then decided to start playing properly when we saw the return of Sibs on the sideline having started on her road to recovery following shoulder surgery which hopefully her new bionic arm will help us next season with the dragflicks 😉
We pushed and pushed and managed to secure a short corner and then another and another and as the whistle blew for half time the magic duo of Moi and Nikki worked wonders and Moi slotted the ball into the goal with perfect power and precision. 2-2 at half time.
Canterbury stepped up in the second half, with Georgia B controlling the left mid having replaced injured Kate, and Sophie pushing higher trying to get into the D for a chance to shoot against her sister in goal. Some great drives from Zoe and lovely work from Lara helped Canterbury to win some more short corners and but just couldn’t put the ball away in the net! Ellie had a good spell in midfield too working their defense hard, after our captain Nikki was carried off the pitch with a torn calf. This pushed Canterbury to keep going and the play was mostly in our attacking 25 but frustratingly the little sister in goal for Sittingbourne kept Canterbury out (well played Lara) with the final score being 2-2! Happy days in the Mears house!
A good match and an honourable mention to our wounded soldiers Kate (pulled hamstring), Ellie (broken thumb but she’s so hard she carried on) and Zoe reversing the roles at the end of the game and giving her mum a piggy-back all the way up to the clubhouse with a torn calf! MOM: Zoe and Moi
DOD: also Moi
p.s Ellie make sure the match gets put under Ladies this week and not the Men’s!
