Dear diary
Today was sooo cold (initially)!!! Today the ladies 2s set off to Ashford, and after a great team talk from our fav coach Ziggy (RIP Nathan), we were all excited to secure 3 points!
What a start! Everyone was switched on from the get-go and after only a few minutes of battling, Alex managed to win a penalty flick- which she scored a SCRUM goal from, giving us a very nice 1-0 lead. With one goal in the bag, our play only got better, with some great structural play up the line from Martha and some great tackling from Cara (our amazing MOM)+ Soph (who we were very grateful to have this week!!). However, despite continuing our excellent play, and winning billions of short corners, we couldn’t quite score another goal (but had some great near misses! <3) Unfortunately, towards the end of the first half, some speedy legs in Ashford’s team helped Ashford get a bit of a breakaway and, after a good kerfuffle involving some great saves from Georgia, they were able to sneak in a goal, bringing the half time score to 1-1.
After munching through most of Alice’s incredible blueberry cloud sweets (we all request more from Australia!), we were fit as a fiddle and ready to go! And go we did, as we won MORE short corners! After some great determination in the D from everyone involved in the short corner, and a cracking shot from Soph, we were 2-1 up, and ecstatic.
We all fought on well (even Chirpy and The Irish with their scraped knees, and Dunny with her sore bum), communicating lots to ensure there weren’t any unmarked players. Sadly, The Irish was sent off for her questionable wipe out, but we did manage to get more short corners! Having identified a gap in Ashford’s defence, Rachel slipped the ball right to EJ, who scored a great strike bringing the score to 3-1! With only a few minutes left, Alice had a lot of fun time wasting, but we stood our ground and finished with a well deserved 3 points! -the Irish was so happy she threw her whole plate of beans and chips on the floor face down earning her DOD
