Over 55s Canterbury 1 Epsom 7

So the over 55, went to Epsom on a very wet, cold, damp December day. Not put off by the weather, but a little put off that the kit didn’t arrive as it nearly got on a plane to Gatwick, but that’s another story.
Once the kit, GK and captain arrived, there was then a quick 10 minute warm up before the game began.
Epsom were very strong, we had a feeling that they were integrated with other clubs which is something that Canterbury is particularly against. You have to be a green and white to play for us!

Having said this, they were stronger fitter and faster. Our defence of “the 3 Julies” SB, G, O, Eirian and Steph were outstanding from the first 30 seconds when the first shot was made.
We held them to 3 nil at half time but ran out of legs in the second half and lost 7.1. It was fantastic to see Jaynie SK on the pitch again expecting to play 10 mins but in reality played 60 minutes at right midfield, when Lou had to retire hurt.
Steph Figgis, also came back to us, also expecting to come off the bench now and then, did the full 70, and surely must be tempted to play more regularly – what’s not to like!
Welcome back to Annie and Eirian with their new bionic bits. The forward line of Suzie, Annie and Gill ran and ran , and would have run some more if we could only have got the ball to them more often!
All in all everyone played superbly and gave it their all, especially Julie SB who definitely saved us from a double figure score line.
Kate Berry was rewarded for all her hard work by a fabulous goal. The good news is we’re into the plate where we belong and bring on the next round.!

People who were unavailable this week will be fit and raring to go in the next round, so Meg, Lyn , Wendy look out we need you and we look forward to playing with you in January. Congratulations again to all and here is to the plate competition.
So enjoy your Christmas, mend your broken bodies and see you in January- Happy New Year!

Remember…It was all in the plan!
